Budget Decoder

Ask anything about Australian government budgets, federal and state, with every answer cited to the source. Three decades of Federal Budgets plus the latest budget papers for NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, TAS, ACT and NT.

Ask anything about Australian government budgets: the Federal Budget from 1997-98 to 2026-27, plus the latest state and territory budgets for NSW, VIC, QLD, WA, TAS, ACT and NT. Every answer is grounded in the official Budget Papers and cited to the page.

Why this exists

Most founders inherit a vague sense of "what is in the Budget" from headlines on the night. The actual document is four volumes, the measures live in Budget Paper 2, the aggregates live in Budget Paper 1, and the cross-year context lives nowhere convenient. This tool reads all of it for you, from 1997-98 through 2026-27 at the federal level, plus the latest state and territory budgets, and gives back the exact figure with the page anchor.

Limitations

Five budget years are not in the corpus due to document-format issues with the historical scans: 1996-97, 2000-01, 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-04. Portfolio Budget Statements are included for the current year only. AI-generated answers are aids to research, not authoritative sources; always read the cited page for anything load-bearing. Rate-limited globally as a cost backstop.
